Lewis Center Just Got Some Travel Attention: Orange Township Founders Festival Returns September 27
Sometimes you don't need to get on a plane, book a hotel or drive several hours to find something worth doing.
Sometimes it's happening right in your own backyard.
And apparently, we're not the only ones noticing.
Travel and Tour World recently highlighted Lewis Center, Ohio, and the upcoming Orange Township Founders Festival, pointing to the event as an example of the kind of smaller community experience that can give visitors a more authentic look at Central Ohio.
As someone who loves showing people that there is always something to do around Central Ohio, I loved seeing Lewis Center getting a little travel attention.
And if you live nearby, there's an important date to put on your September calendar.

Here's what we know so far and why I think events like this matter more than we sometimes realize.
First, Make Sure You Go to the Right Park
If you've attended Founders Festival in previous years, pay attention to this year's location.
The 2026 Orange Township Founders Festival will be held at North Road Park, located at 5684 North Road in Lewis Center.
That's worth emphasizing because older information online may point you toward previous festival locations, including Evans Farm and North Orange Park.

What Can We Expect at Founders Festival?
Here's where I'm going to resist the temptation to give you a giant list of things that haven't actually been announced yet.
Orange Township has confirmed the date, time and location, but a complete 2026 entertainment and activity schedule had not yet been released when Travel and Tour World published its story.
Previous Founders Festivals have featured things such as children's activities, inflatables, obstacle courses, pumpkin activities, face painting, henna, food and music.
That gives us a sense of the festival's family-friendly personality.
But those were past activities, not a guarantee of what will be there this year.
I'll be watching for Orange Township to release the full schedule as we get closer to September 27.
Three Hours Is Actually Kind of Perfect
I also like the format of this event.
It's only three hours.
You don't have to block out your entire Sunday.
You don't need a complicated itinerary.
And parents don't necessarily have to commit to dragging tired kids around a festival for eight hours.
Come over in the afternoon.
Walk around.
See some neighbors.
Enjoy whatever activities are happening.
Grab something to eat if food vendors are announced.
Spend some time outside.
Then go on with your Sunday.
There's something refreshingly simple about that.
Why Would a Travel Publication Care About a Small Festival in Lewis Center?
This is actually the part of the Travel and Tour World article I found most interesting.
We tend to think of tourism in terms of major attractions.
Cedar Point.
The Columbus Zoo.
Big sporting events.
Museums.
Concerts.
Destination restaurants.
Those things absolutely bring people to Ohio.
But there's another kind of travel experience people increasingly look for:
What do the locals actually do?
Where do families gather?
What does a normal weekend look like?
Where can someone experience the personality of a community rather than simply checking another tourist attraction off a list?
That's where local events like Founders Festival fit.
Travel and Tour World described the festival as a way for people visiting the Columbus area or traveling through Delaware County to experience something more personal and community-focused.
I think they're onto something.
Lewis Center Isn't Really a Tourist Destination. And That's Kind of the Point.
People probably aren't flying into Columbus from across the country specifically to vacation in Lewis Center.
That's okay.
That's not what makes this area special.
Lewis Center is a place where people live.
Families go to school here.
People raise kids here.
We work here.
We volunteer here.
We meet friends for coffee here.
We go to parks.
We cheer at Friday night football games.
We run into people we know at the grocery store.
And every once in a while, we all end up at the same community festival.
That's a completely different kind of destination experience.
For someone visiting family in Delaware County, considering relocating to Central Ohio or spending a weekend north of Columbus, an event like Founders Festival gives them a little glimpse of what living here actually feels like.
And as a Realtor, I think that's incredibly valuable.
You Can't Understand a Community From a Real Estate Listing
This is something I wish more people understood when they're relocating.
You can look at houses online all day.
You can compare square footage.
Bedrooms.
Bathrooms.
School districts.
Property taxes.
Commute times.
Those things matter.
But none of them completely answer the biggest question:
Would I actually enjoy living here?
That's harder to determine.
You need to experience the community.
Go to the park.
Eat at the local restaurants.
Drive through the neighborhoods.
Attend a community event.
Talk to people.
See what's happening on a Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon.
Because you're not simply choosing a house.
You're choosing the life happening around it.
Community Events Are Part of What Makes a Place Feel Like Home
I spend a lot of time talking about what's changing around Central Ohio.
New development.
Road projects.
Restaurants opening.
Businesses closing.
New schools.
Housing.
Property taxes.
All of that matters.
But sometimes we need to talk about the fun stuff too.
Community festivals are one of those things.
They give neighbors a reason to leave their houses and actually see one another.
They introduce residents to local organizations and businesses.
They give kids memories tied to where they grew up.
And they help create the connections that turn a collection of subdivisions into an actual community.
That's difficult to measure.
But it's incredibly important.
Orange Township Has Been Creating More Opportunities to Gather
Founders Festival is also part of a larger calendar of Orange Township community events.
The township's annual schedule includes events such as the Independence Day Parade, America 250 celebrations, Heroes Not Forgotten 4-Miler and holiday activities.
Each event is different.
But they share the same basic purpose:
Give people a reason to come together.
That's something I hope we continue protecting as Delaware County grows.
Because Lewis Center Is Growing
There's no getting around that.
Lewis Center and the surrounding portions of southern Delaware County look very different than they did 10, 20 or 30 years ago.
More houses.
More businesses.
More traffic.
More schools.
More people.
Growth brings opportunities.
It also creates challenges.
And one of those challenges is making sure that as communities get bigger, they don't become less connected.
That's why little things like community festivals aren't really so little.
They're part of maintaining a sense of place.
One of My Favorite Things About Central Ohio
One of the things I love about living here is that you can choose your adventure.
Want a major sporting event?
We've got it.
Professional soccer?
Absolutely.
Museums?
Yep.
Theatre?
Plenty.
Great restaurants?
More than most people realize.
Want to drive into downtown Columbus for a major festival?
Easy.
But you can also stay close to home and spend three hours at a community festival in Lewis Center.
Both count as living well.
And sometimes the smaller experience ends up being the one you remember.
